What we will ask you for

The whole list, in advance, for every service. Send what applies to you and nothing else — if something on a list does not exist in your case, say so and we will work around it.

Kya kya bhejna hai — poori list.

Not on any list, ever

Your income tax portal password, your GST portal password, or the one-time code that arrives on your phone. We do not need them and we will not ask. If you are ever asked for one by somebody claiming to be us, that is not us.

Salary or pension return

  • PAN
  • Aadhaar
  • Your bank account number and IFSC, for any refund
  • Form 16 from each employer you had during the year
  • Interest certificates or bank statements for the year

Only if it applies to you

  • · Rent received, and the tenant's details — if you let out a house or a shop
  • · Home loan interest certificate — if you are paying a home loan
  • · Proof of the deductions you want to claim — 80C, 80D and the rest — if you are using the old regime

We read your AIS and Form 26AS alongside these and come back to you about anything that does not match, before anything is filed.

Return with shares, mutual funds or a property sale

  • PAN
  • Aadhaar
  • Your bank account number and IFSC, for any refund
  • Form 16, if you are also salaried
  • The capital-gains statement from each broker or fund house

Only if it applies to you

  • · The sale deed and the purchase deed — if you sold a property or land
  • · Proof of what you spent improving the property — if you are claiming it against the gain
  • · Details of where the gain was reinvested — if you want to claim a relief on it
  • · Your crypto exchange statement for the year — if you bought or sold crypto

Small business or professional return

  • PAN
  • Aadhaar
  • Your bank account number and IFSC, for any refund
  • Your total turnover or receipts for the year
  • Bank statements for every account the business used

Only if it applies to you

  • · Your GST returns for the year — if you are registered under GST
  • · A note of how much came in as cash — if any of it did — it changes the limit that applies to you

Business or profession with books, and F&O

  • PAN
  • Aadhaar
  • Your bank account number and IFSC, for any refund
  • Profit and loss account and balance sheet
  • Bank statements for every business account

Only if it applies to you

  • · Your broker's profit and loss report for the year — if you trade intraday or F&O
  • · The partnership deed and your share of profit — if you are a partner in a firm
  • · Last year's audit report — if your accounts were audited

Correcting a return you have filed

  • The acknowledgement of the return you filed
  • A copy of the return itself
  • What you think is wrong with it

GST registration

  • PAN of the business, and of each proprietor or partner
  • Aadhaar of the authorised signatory
  • Proof of the business address — an electricity bill, rent agreement or ownership document
  • A cancelled cheque or a bank statement showing the account name
  • A photograph of each proprietor or partner

Only if it applies to you

  • · Partnership deed, or the certificate of incorporation — if the business is not a sole proprietorship
  • · Board resolution or an authorisation letter — if somebody other than the proprietor will sign

The Aadhaar authentication is done by you, on your own phone. Nobody else can do it and nobody should ask to.

GST returns, each period

  • Your sales register or the invoices you raised
  • Your purchase invoices, for the input tax credit

Only if it applies to you

  • · Credit and debit notes issued — if you issued any
  • · Details of exports, or sales to an SEZ — if you made any

Send these once per period and we prepare the return from them. You see and approve every one before it is filed.

TDS when you buy a property

  • PAN of every buyer and every seller
  • The agreement or sale deed, with the address and the amount
  • The dates and amounts of what you have paid so far

The payment itself goes from your own bank account to the government. It never comes to us.

An income tax or GST notice

  • A photo or PDF of the notice, with the date on it readable
  • The return the notice is about, if you have it

Send the notice before you gather anything else. The date on it decides how long we have, and that is the first thing we need to know.

PAN — new or correction

  • Aadhaar
  • Your date of birth as it appears on Aadhaar

Only if it applies to you

  • · The existing PAN card — if you are correcting one
  • · Proof of the name you want it changed to — if your name has changed
Find out which list is yours

What we will never do

  • Invent a deduction, a donation or a rent receipt
  • File anything before you have seen it and said yes
  • Take government tax or fees into our own account
  • Promise you a refund, or how long the department will take
  • Handle a tax audit without a Chartered Accountant — by law, only they can

If anyone offers you these things for a fee, that is worth walking away from — whoever they are. Any tax, interest or government fee on your case is paid by you to the government, never to us.
